RUN OVER THE STOCKBRIDGE MOUNTAIN, NEW YORK

I became very fond of this loop few years ago when a friend offered an overnight camping trip and introduced me to this hike. It was a perfect weekend get away and ever since then I try to visit at least once a year.

Although, the view of the surrounding hills from Stockbridge Mountain is somewhat obstructed by the trees, it is still worthwhile to climb it. This is an ultimately pleasant loop that is perfect for training if you are looking to improve your overall fitness. It is a great match for the seasoned trail runners (you should see them run!!!). As for hikers, a difficulty of the trail could be classified as moderate (rest assured, some parts are quite easy!). Make sure to wear heavy duty hiking shoes if it was raining. Unfortunately, some spots will become muddy (especially before the meeting of Long Path Trail and Nawahunta Fire Road). If you are planning to hike, it should not take you more than 3.5 hrs.

YES, the parking lot may become full. YES, you will have to pay a fee to park there once the season starts. BUT, most likely the trail itself will not be crowded and you will not pass too many runners/hikers/backpackers. YAY!

On this hike you will enjoy  a lot of up and down moments, a wonderful appeal of the Nawahunta Lake, big boulders and rock walls, cave shelter, great camping spots on the grassy and rocky top of the mountain, and much more!

Make sure to bring a reliable map with you because it is a difficult circle back to the parking lot and it consists of hiking different trails and roads!

On the ridge of Stockbridge Mountain, you will find some amazing boulder formations (like a cave shelter!) and I suggest exploring those and taking cool photos.
