HOW TO FIND TERRACE POND  – 1,000 Feet Closer to Heaven

At a very start, a blue trail takes you in through a short tunnel of rhododendrons. From the very beginning, this hike will challenge you because it is all up the hill. I am not an avid proponent of climbing up the hill, but I will do it if it s worth it. And what makes committing to this hike worth it, is the awesome view you get to enjoy on top of the Bearfort Mountain ridge.

Rugged, rocky and hard at times: the trail will make you work for a chance to see gorgeous vistas. You get to see the rolling hills beautifully framed by the trees such as fragrant pines. The volunteers, the trail maintainers, for this beautiful corner of New Jersey, did a brilliant job with implementing new circular trails. The Avenza map for Wawayanda State Park may not reflect these changes yet. Therefore, please make sure to consult the map (and take it with you!) before your trip.

Either I am very lucky or it is an amazing year to find Lady’s Pink Slipper everywhere I hike. I found few during my Spring excursion and I kept finding them in Apshawa Preserve as well. 

The lake is beautiful! What a gem! You even get to climb down the ladder and walk the new bridge that has been installed. It is a really amazing bridge that lets you pass over the boggy end of a lake and thus making it possible to complete the entire loop around the blue eye. This marvel was put together by volunteers back in 2020 over the course of a few days and the sections were brought by a helicopter:) Thank you volunteers!

Yes swimming in the lake is prohibited and so is jumping off the cliff.
