CARRIS HILL

Time and time again, New Jersey amazes me with its beauty and for me, this hike accentuated this notion even more. 

I handpicked this hike to share with you because all the climbing, rock scrambling and walking is well worth it when you reach the top: the apex that is Carris Hill. I got inspired with a gorgeous panoramic view of the Wanaque Reservoir and surrounding hills and managed to meditate, uninterrupted, for 20 minutes sitting on what seemed to be the top of the world. 

Yes, this loop will get your heart racing and you will be thirsty enough to finish a bottle of water (perhaps a sandwich and a power bar as well) before this adventure is over.

The trails lead you through the woods of Norvin Green State Forest presenting interesting geology (glaciers have been here “throwing” big boulders here and there), water falls, creek, numerous vantage points featuring great views from the summit and much more!  

For this experience, make sure you are bright-eyed, bushy-tailed early in the morning. The trails are in the southern part of the Norvin Green State Forest which is highly popular and well-traveled by hikers on weekends. They just love the area! I did the loop in the clockwise direction. I think the trail is easier this way. However, you are more than welcome to challenge and prove me wrong. Walk counter clock wise! Yay!
