Autumn arrives every year with its gorgeous foliage, fragrant air, some rain, pumpkin pie and…. ripe apples ready for picking. And apple picking is one of my favorite activities every fall! There are few great apple orchards that you can visit nearby. I list only few below but there are many! 🙂
Ochs Orchard
Perched high above Warwick, NY, Ochs Orchard is a family-run farm offering breathtaking views and a true taste of the Hudson Valley. Guests can pick their own apples, vegetables, fruits, and even fresh flowers while enjoying the beauty of the surrounding countryside.
A visit wouldn’t be complete without sampling their famous homemade ice cream and warm apple cider doughnuts—favorites that keep visitors coming back season after season. The on-site farm store is stocked with fresh produce, local goods, and seasonal specialties, making it the perfect stop to take a piece of the farm home with you.
With its stunning vistas, family-friendly atmosphere, and delicious treats, Ochs Orchard is more than just a farm—it’s a Warwick tradition.

Beyond the harvest, the orchard is more than a “pick-your-own” destination—it’s a celebration of community, nature, and the simple joy of time spent outdoors
Pochuck Valley Farms
Located at 962 McAfee Glenwood Road in Glenwood, NJ, Pochuck Valley Farms is a family-owned farm, market, and deli that has been part of the community since 1912. Blending tradition with local flavor, the farm offers a warm country atmosphere where visitors can enjoy “pick-your-own” fruits like apples, pears, and peaches during the harvest season.
Beyond the fields, the market and deli are filled with homemade baked goods, fresh produce, artisan sandwiches, and local specialties. Guests can also browse seasonal treats, handcrafted items, and unique gifts—all with the charm of a rustic farm setting.
A favorite stop for both locals and travelers, Pochuck Valley Farms is known for its friendly service, delicious cider, and famous donuts, making it a true taste of the countryside.
It is noteworthy that the apples originated from one place on earth. Their wild ancestors grew and ripened in the forests in the mountainous region of Kazakhstan. The juicy apples, as we know and taste them today, came a long way over the centuries.
The following benefits of eating apples will surely encourage you to remember to eat more of them!
They are high in nutrients: packed with anti-oxidants, fiber, vitamin C. An apple boosts the performance of your immune system!
They do wonders for your heart and liver. Eating apples makes your liver function better thanks to a high level of pectin. Pectin aids our digestive tract with releasing toxins which in turn helps our liver to cleanse and detoxify itself and the rest of the body better. Impressive!
They are a perfect snack. An apple is a great alternative to eating junk food and it will help you satisfy your cravings even though its calorie count is not high. Medium sized apples will have approximately 60 calories.
They may help you with weight loss! Apples have that special ability to reduce our appetite due to high fiber content: more fiber keeps your tummy feeling full longer.
