Castle Loop

CASTLE LOOP – MAKE IT YOUR PERFECT DESTINATION THIS AUTUMN!

This is one of the best and most rewarding hikes in the area! Park on top of the Skyline Line Drive and enjoy your,  rugged at times, walk to discover truly beautiful vistas…..and the ruins, Van Slyke castle! The ruins offer great photo opportunities. Remember about this hike in the fall! The foliage to be seen from atop is spectacular.

On this approximately 3.2 mile hike, you will also stumble upon a beautiful Ramapo Lake. You may also choose a longer hike and add to your expedition a loop around the lake. The lake is picture-perfect! What are you waiting for?:)

On this hike, I walked in a clock-wise direction: I reached the lake first and proceeded to climb to the castle, then on to see the water cistern that looks like a really cool tower. 

The Ramapo Mountain State Preserve is a very busy place indeed and if you are planning to visit the preserve over the weekend, I suggest arriving early in the morning for the parking spaces are limited.

There are other trails in the vicinity so make sure to investigate the area and enjoy other paths as well!
