The NAR Settlement: What You Need to Know
The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) recently reached a significant settlement that affects how real estate transactions unfold:
- Compensation Shift: NAR has agreed to no longer require listing brokers to offer upfront compensation to buyer’s agents through the Multiple Listing Service (MLS). This means that the traditional model of compensation is evolving.
- Direct Negotiation: Going forward, brokers and agents will negotiate compensation directly with their clients. This change will affect you as a buyer relative to the financial aspects of your transaction.
- Written Buyer Agreements: NAR will be requiring real estate agents to enter into written buyer agreements before touring homes. This ensures transparency and clarity from the outset. Yes, I will no longer be able to show you a property without you signing an agreement with me.
