Norvin Green State Forest offers a variety of breathtaking hiking trails, and one of the most rewarding is the trek to Wynaoke High Point. This hike promises not only an invigorating workout but also some of the most spectacular views in the area.
This is one of the best and most rewarding hikes in the area! Park on top of the Skyline Line Drive and enjoy your, rugged at times, walk to discover truly beautiful vistas…..and the ruins, Van Slyke castle!
Maple, beech and oak trees are dominant in Apshawa Preserve. But your nostrils may also enjoy a fragrance of eastern white pines, hemlocks and red cedars on warmer days. Spring is especially beautiful here.
Autumn arrives every year with its gorgeous foliage, fragrant air, some rain, pumpkin pie and…. ripe apples ready for picking.
There are several hiking trails to appreciate in Sterling Forest and some trails are designated for cross country skiing and mountain biking (but be sure to confirm where exactly these sports are permitted).
And what makes committing to this hike worth it, is the awesome view you get to enjoy on top of the Bearfort Mountain ridge.
I handpicked this hike to share with you because all the climbing, rock scrambling and walking is well worth it when you reach the top: the apex that is Carris Hill.
Visiting Ringwood Manor is a perfect idea for a sunny, easy Sunday walk. It is located in the Ringwood State Park. The grounds are beautiful and picture-perfect featuring buildings such as Blacksmiths Shop, Laundry Building and Carriage House.
If you are looking for something nice and easy, then you should visit Fuller Mountain Preserve. This is truly a hidden-away-treasure…right above the New York – New Jersey border.
The quiet charm of Wawayanda appeals to hikers, campers, swimmers and boaters. Forested hills surround Lake Wawayanda creating a restful backdrop for canoeists, boaters and fisherman, while steep mountains challenge casual as well as serious hikers.
You will fall in love with paved miles (over 10 miles!!!) of winding paths of Saddle River County Park. Here, you can escape traffic, busy streets and cars passing you by.
Located in Bergen County, Ramapo Valley County Reservation offers its visitors a multitude of great features: views of Ramapo River, Scarlet Oak Pond and MacMillan Reservoir, great vistas, hiking trails, camping, and fishing (to name a few).
When you are out there enjoying the woods, please hug a tree or two (and look totally silly while doing this!). You will enjoy it (does a tree enjoy it? No idea). It is healing and relaxing … for us. We have at least 1,000,000,000 small and large Groots to hug in New Jersey.
I became very fond of this loop few years ago when a friend offered an overnight camping trip and introduced me to this hike. It was a perfect weekend get away and ever since then I try to visit at least once a year.

Nature is My Companion and she is always there to help and inspireMake her your companion as well. I return to nature simply because she restores my health and mind. I take more from her than I give in return. It is not a fair exchange. Being outdoors has a quite therapeutic and meditative effect on me. Let’s keep generating love for Mother Nature. She deserves it!
